Unusual places in Kiev 2018

The capital has more than one and a half centuries of history. There are hundreds of secluded places in the city that have their own legends, dozens of green parks, temples, monasteries, museums, theaters and other sights. Park bridge in Mariinsky park

The bridge overlooking the Dnieper and the left bank has five names, in addition to the formal one. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was the only crossing that connected the center and the Dnieper slopes. Due to the fragile design, the bridge swayed in strong winds, thanks to which it received the name “Devil’s Bridge”. After the reconstruction, it was renamed “Paton’s Bridge”, and after the institution of the tradition to fasten locks and ribbons to the railing, the bridge was called the “Kiss Bridge” or “The Bridge of Lovers”.

House with Chimeras

Architectural landmark of the city. The building in the Art Nouveau style has the second name “Gorodetsky House” in honor of the architect. The building has the shape of a cube and is located on a cliff. The impression of the exterior is enhanced by sculptures of various animals and monsters. The house is located near the city center and the metro, it is convenient to get to it, regardless of where you managed to rent a hotel in Kiev.

Golden Gate

The main tower of the ancient Kiev was built in the 12th century, served as the only entrance to the city, was part of the defensive structure. Up to our time, only the ruins of the historical monument have been preserved, which have been mothballed under the exposition of the present gate. Pirogovo Museum

The museum of folk architecture and life is located in the open air on the outskirts of the capital. This is where festivals of Ukrainian celebrations and rituals are held. Motherland Monument

The largest sculpture of Kiev, the symbol of the city has a height of 102 meters, weighs 430 tons. The monument refers to the period of the Second World War. The People’s Friendship Arch

The sculptural composition consists of a large titanium arch and a monument with a height of 6 meters. The opening of an unusual monument was timed to the celebration of the 1500th anniversary of Kiev. It is located in the center of the capital, stands out for its unusual architecture. In the evenings, the multicolored illumination turns on, which gives the arch a colorful look of a real rainbow.

Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

One of the most famous landmarks of the city, which dates back to the 11th century, is a historical reserve. The place is attractive with the beauty of the churches, the wonderworking icons, ancient history, mysterious caves, interesting artifacts, amazing legends.

Volodymyrska Hill

One of the most popular parks among Kiev residents, created at the beginning of the 19th century, has 3 tiers. It was here that the funicular was launched as a public transport, which still works today. The first memorial in the city is installed in the park – a monument to Prince Vladimir. Volodymyrska Hill offers a breathtaking view of the Dnieper, the left bank of the city, which makes the walk unforgettable together with the unique landscape.
